Gruhn Guitars Martin D-45

1940 Martin D-45

"Prewar" is a special word when it comes to Martins, and the most special of all is the prewar D-45. It was the fanciest style, with abalone pearl inlay on practically every border of the body. And the body was Martin's new, extra-large dreadnought. The first D-45 was custom made for singing cowboy star Gene Autry in 1933 and only 90 more were made before production ceased in 1942.

This example (inv. #AA7695) was made in 1940 and sports original tortoiseshell grain peghead veneer and closed-back Grover tuners. It was refinished by Martin in 1989 and comes with the repair documents, along with photos of the prior owner taken in 1956. In exceptionally fine condition and with original hard case, this instrument is SOLD.
