Joe Spann

Joe came to Gruhn Guitars as Research/Archivist in 2015. His book “Spann’s Guide to Gibson 1902-1941” was published in 2011 and quickly became the standard for pre-war Gibson reference. Joe previously worked at Huber Banjos in Hendersonville, Tennessee (2012-2015) as the Production/Sales/Marketing Manager. Joe plays guitar, banjo and mandolin. He spent a decade as a professional musician on the road and in the central Florida theme parks.

He received a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education (Mathematics) in 1981 from Florida Southern College. He is a 2005 graduate of the National Institute on Genealogical Research in Washington, D.C. From 1991 until 2012 Joe was the director of the Polk County Historical & Genealogical Library in Bartow, Florida.

Joe is easily startled by loud noises, responds well to his name and is mostly house-trained.
