Andy grew up in Elmhurst, Illinois. His interest in music led him to get into the guitar (literally) with a two-year course at the Redwing Technical College in Redwing, Minnesota, studying violin repair as well as guitar building and repair. From there he went south, almost as far as you can go, to work for guitarmaker Ross Teigen in Estero, Florida.
In 1994, after three years of repair work for Teigen, Andy moved to Nashville to hone his skills as part of the Gruhn repair staff. At the time, he was the youngest in the shop and eager to learn all he could. Andy has now come full circle as the senior repairman on staff happy to share his many years of experience and knowledge-base with the rest of the team.
Though Andy primarily repairs fine vintage archtops and acoustic guitars, he spends his time at home playing a plethora of basses and inexpensive electric solidbody guitars. He has a special place in his heart for refret jobs.
