Michael Stevens Classic Custom
Michael Stevens was one of the best known custom guitar builders in the 1980s, having created Christopher Cross' Strat-shaped doubleneck, Junior Brown's "Guit-steel," the Paul Glasse electric mandolin and the Roscoe Beck - Spencer Starnes six string basses. It was during that period, when he was based in Austin, that he made this beautiful 335-style guitar. He went on to start up a Custom Shop for Fender in 1986, and he is now an independent builder based in Alpine, Texas.
This instrument, inv. # EZ4585, was built in 1982. The body, which has no f-holes, is of spectacular quilted maple. The fingerboard inlay and neck carving were done by Renee Karnes of California in 1994. Included are photos showing the guitar under construction and original correspondence from Mike Stevens, plus a video featuring Stevens, and effects pedals. In near mint condition with hard case it is offered at $5,000
