Martin Style 5K Soprano Uke
With the rise of Hawaiian music in the late 1910s, the Martin guitar company began making ukuleles. The uke line quickly expanded from plain mahogany models to more elaborate Hawaiian koa models. Model 5K was the uke equivalent of the Style 45 guitars -- the top of the line, with beautifully figured koa wood, trimmed out with abalone pearl.
This 5K (inv. #UK0927) from circa 1930 was formerly owned by Eddie Connors, the man who invented and designed the baritone ukulele for 1950s TV star Arthur Godfrey. It is in exceptionally fine condition. With orignal hard case it is offered at $9,500.
