Bill Comins
After majoring in Jazz Guitar Performance at Temple University, Bill Comins' interest in guitar expanded from creating music to creating the guitars themselves. After working in guitar repair and violin repair shops, he built a few instruments and then, in 1992, decided to build his first archtop guitar. Aware that archtop guitars require the highest level of luthiery skills, he sought guidance from the highest-level luthier - Bob Benedetto.
This is the guitar that Comins and Benedetto built in Benedetto's shop. The interior back is signed by Comins and Benedetto. It is 17" wide with a European spruce top, maple back and birdseye maple sides, and a floating pickup."
It became the prototype for Comins' Chester Avenue model, his high-end archtop (named after the street where his shop was located at the time). Now based in Willow Grove, PA, Comins is well-known solidbody electrics and acoustic flat-tops as well as his fine archtop guitars. This guitar (inv. #AR3965), with its original hardshell case, is offered at $5600.
