Homer Haynes' D'Angelico Excel
Homer and Jethro were famous as musical comedians, but both Henry "Homer" Haynes and Kenneth "Jethro" Burns were fine musicians as well. For evidence, one had to look no farther than the fine archtops that Homer played, such as this D'Angelico Excel cutaway model from 1959.
This guitar has a 17 3/16" body with beautifully figured maple neck, back, and sides. John D'Angelico was well known by the late 1950s as the premier maker of archtop guitars, and this is an exceptionally fine example of his work in addition to its celebrity connection. It has a replica pickguard made by Gruhn Guitars, and it comes with documentation from Homer's son. With its original hard case OHC it is offered at $65,000
