1956 Fender custom color Esquire
By 1956, Fender's single-pickup Esquire was becoming a relatively rare sight compared to the more popular double-pickup Telecaster and triple-pickup Stratocaster. Non-standard finish colors were still limited to sunburst or black, so this Esquire with a rich blue metallic finish (slightly darker than the later Lake Placid Blue) is a rare, if not one-of-a-kind, instrument.
This Esquire (inv. #EF7053) does not have a neck date or body date, but the specs place it in 1956 and the pot codes are both from 1956. In VG+ condition with tweed hard case, it is offered at $20,000.
