Gruhn Staff Picks for December

Though it goes without saying that the folks at Gruhn are fans of fretted instruments, it's always nice to shine a spotlight on some favorites that can quickly pass through the shop. Here are some great instruments which have recently piqued our interest.

EZ5622, 1987 Ibanez Jem #173 (JEM777LNG)
"This guitar is a really cool example of a Jem. Steve Vai signed and numbered this guitar on the back. There were only 777 made and this is number 173. I feel it is a very collectable Ibanez guitar." - Keith (sales) "I have extremely fond memories of how Rock & Roll was changing in the 1980s. This guitar is very symbolic of that era and how it introduced a new generation of guitar heroes." - Eric (GM)

EB6768, 2014 Gibson Historic Shop Les Paul R-9

EF8973, recent Fender, made in Mexico Graffiti Stratocaster
"Here we have a great guitar with lots of character, all for under $700. Made in Mexico Fenders are known as affordable guitars that function at a high level. They are truly the instrument of choice for the working musician." - Greg (Repair Shop Mgr.)
EXF, tweed HC ... $650.00
BF3105, 1993 Fender Jazz Bass Deluxe 5-string
"This one is a sleeper! Do you want a five string that doesn’t have a football field for a fingerboard? - this is your bass. More narrow than some but still comfortable and playable- the perfect  nut width for a 5 string (in my humble opinion). Also has that great fundamental bass sound - not all hifi like some boutique 5 strings. Added bonus - for a while Fender owned and manufactured Kubicki basses giving them access to some very versatile electronics that they then put on some Fender instruments- this is one of those. This is a great instrument and tool and the B string also has great fundamental (not always the case with some more traditional style 5 string instruments). You will not be sorry you added this to your arsenal." - Tony (repair)
EXF, metallic blue burst finish, EMG pickups with rotary selector, OHC ... $1,250.00
EA1526, 2001 Gibson Flying V LTD
"No frills Flying V for just over a grand! An affordable instrument that has something to say on any stage or bedroom. This flying machine comes in its original hard shell case for no extra cost." - Greg (Repair Shop Mgr.)
NM, cherry red finish, OHC ... $1,100.00
BF3133, Fender (made in Japan) Geddy Jazz Bass
This made in Japan bass brings the goods with a great fundamental Jazz Bass sound and a little added sizzle from the maple fingerboard and slightly hotter pickups. This sounds a little fatter than some of this signature model I’ve played. Crank up Tom Sawyer, play along, and you will instantly hear that tone you know so well (it really does sound like Geddy Lee’s Bass !) talk about a bargain!!" - Tony (repair)
EXC, black finish, black block fingerboard inlays, padded gig bag ... $750.00
AB10097, 1925 Ditson (by Martin) 0-18
"This guitar will surprise you with its beautiful warm tone. Definitely a finger style guitar that will respond to lightest of touch. A strong example of what Martin did well for this period of instrument making. Bravo!!!" - Andy (repair)
