Martin 000-28Koa

1921 Martin 000-28K

Along with the Hawaiian music that swept the nation in the late 1910s and early 1920s, the beautiful koa wood of Hawaiian instruments also became a favorite of ukulele and guitar players. Martin made quite a number of koa ukes and some guitars in the smaller body sizes, but only one 000-28 in koa. Or so we thought until we came upon this guitar.

We sold a different 1921 000-28K in 2002 which we had assumed was the one and only example noted in Mike Longworth's Martin book. But after acquiring this example, we checked with Martin. This guitar, #16253, is the one that Longworth found in the books, logged in as a 000-28K. Our earlier example, #16347, was logged in simply as a 000-28 without the K.

This instrument (inv. #AB6872) is in VG+ condition with oversprayed finish. With orignal hard case it is offered at $18,000.
